Friends of Don Neuhauser Needed

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

I would change the name to something like:

Neuhauser Dulcimers

Don's Dulcimers

Something simple yet descriptive.  Enzo Ferrari used his name...look how well that turned out.  lol

Stephen,

I looked at the site and my first recommendation would be to change the name from the current Double D to something that isn't sexist and won't run the risk of alienating his potential customers.  I have been teaching web design and interactive media for about 10+ years and if you need any help with the design, I would be glad to help.  But I would seriously have him rethink his site name; the sexual conotation does not become the quality of the instruments that he appears to create.  Women have it bad enough in the media without having to feel objectified when they go to a dulcimer site to buy a dulcimer.

Advice starting a website

OFF TOPIC discussions

Dusty,

I would recommend the HTML5 CSS3 quick Start Guide: http://www.amazon.com/HTML5-Visual-QuickStart-Guide-Edition/dp/0321... It is a good reference book to help you master all the coding. Another thing you can do is look at some of the free online tutorials about how to do some of the basic features, these can be very helpful.

I will give you a very basic concept to remember and you can work from there. The HTML is the structure or framework of the website. It will contain all the elements that make up your site. <body> tags, <div> tags etc. The body tag is where all of the content of the page will be placed. It can contain multiple <div> tags, <img src= ...>tags, etc. If you do some simple coding already you probably already know this. The CSS is where you beautify the site. The CSS controls the location(somewhat) the colors, the fonts, the navigation menu is formatted here, etc. There are several sites that will supply CSS code for your site, all you have to do is modify some of the code to give it the appearance you desire.

Hereare a couple of HTML sites:

If you need any help or explanations let me know. I would be more than happy to help.

Wordpress is a good site to use to develop a website and blog. Has a lot of plugins that allow or enable a lot of features. There are several tutorials and explanations concerning Wordpress too.

Dusty,

What you are wanting to do with the banner picture will require a <div> tag or putting the image in the <header> section of the new HTML 5 code. I teach Web Design and Interactive media, if you would like to have a hosting site I would recommend almost anybody except GoDaddy.com. I have had nothing but trouble with them and I don't like their business practices. If you would like a simple site designed let me know and I might be able to talk a student of mine into designing something for youas a project for my class. I am always looking for real world examples for them to be able to put in their portfolios for graduation. On a side note, did I read correctly that you work as an instructional designer? That is what I do for my full time job also.

Talk to you more soon.

Kevin

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Ok, so after the Christmas buying frenzy, I have to update my status of the affliction known as DAD. I got it bad over the last couple of weeks. So here is the new list:

1 Clemmer Banjammer (DAD) (NEW)

2 Jesse Williams Hourglass Dulcimers (DAD, DAA)

2 McNally Strumsticks, 1 Grand (DAD), 1 Standard (FCF)

1 McSpadden Walnut Hourglass (DAD) (NEW)

1 Mark Eubank Baritone Dulcimer Cherry and Western Cedar (AEA) (NEW)

1 Mark Eubank Hourglass Dulcimer Bird's Eye Maple (DAD) (NEW)

2 Fiddles, 1 full size, 1 (1/2 size for my daughter)

1 Mandolin

1 12 string Seagull Guitar

1 6 string Seagull Guitar

So I added 4 dulcimers over a 3 day period. I look at the bright side, I didn't leave with the entire store...just most of it.

You need as many as necessary to cover all the tunings you play or ever want to play. Or you can take the approach of ...look at the beautiful woodgrain on this one...itwould look beautiful inthe house. Oryou can use whatever excuse works for you at the time,it is tough to kill theDAD infection. I had more than I couldplay but now everyone else in the house has started to play and I need to get more dulcimers in case guests come over...lol.

I think I have DAD but its still in its early stages as I only have one but I know its a slippery slope. I'm constantly looking at others. Only my lack of finance and my wife (OK mainly my wife) are keeping this condition in check at the moment.

She said the other day, having caught me yet again coveting more Dulcimers 'You've got one.How many dulcimers does one man need?'

I thought I know just the people to ask!

So whats the answer?

I am slightly afflicted, but obviously not nearly as bad as some of the people I see here. Guess I need to stand closer so I can be sure to catch the bug.

Here is what I have:

2 hourglass dulcimers (built by Jesse Williams)

1 Grand Strumstick

1 Standard Strumstick

1 dulcimer built by a group in Fredricksburg, Texas, they have since gone out of business. I doesn't play well so it became a wall ornament.

1 12-string Guitar (Seagull)

1 6-string Guitar (Seagull)

1 Mandolin

That is all at the moment, however, I have my eye on a Banjammer and I feel that will be the next item to join the club.
