Fiddle

Adventures with 'other' instruments...

I play the fiddle and feel that playing the dulcimer has helped me play it..I don't play many chords..just melody string and drones.. so having a lot of fiddle tunes in my head it seems to be easy to find the note interval on the fiddle..  just my experience..of course intonation is a bit tough but tuner helps...i find that just going for it without timidity is best..good luck and fmhave fun

Use painters tape ..little bits andvwrite the notes..after you realize it is cdefgabc  over and over and then a strong colired diff for the g and c will give u the geography of the psaltery...also mark the c and f sharps and the b flats as those are the most used

Hi..i play bp..just got into it..i own a 2 octave spring creek ps made by terry kirby from ohio..it is lovely...i also have a 3 octave baritone that is like 3 feet long...it is amazing but big...terry kirby just puts a thin piece of paper down the two area where the zither pins are and has the name written next to the pin..you could also put a red dot where the c is and a blue dot where the f is as on a harp...use a sticky dot  to know the geography of the strings..pam

2 newly made instruments from musicmakerz

Adventures with 'other' instruments...

Irene,,  yes they were a bit challenging ..esp putting the strings on the one..i just finished both of them this month...i tne the small one to c and the lg to d.   One thing to do on the olde is to play melody and shen u run out of notes go to the lower note and play it there...so if  you are playing the high e but the need to play the higher f and g go to the lower f and g and play them..it sounds pretty fine..i too play older songs on it
