There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood

musician/member name: Entertainment
Duration: 00:03:26
description:
My rendition of William Cowper's beautiful hymn lyrics with music from a 19th century camp meeting tune "Cleansing Fountain". I have included here only 3 verses of this hymn. The scriptural references are Zechariah 13:1 "On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and impurity." and Hebrews 9:14 "How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!"
I was inspired to make this post by FOTMD member Robin Thompson's beautiful audio rendition of the same hymn on the Friends Of The Mountain Dulcimer website and I was very much encouraged by my FOTMD friend Cynthia Wigington. Thank you.

I agree with Cynthia, your version has a mystical quality to it Gordon.  I wonder if it's partly due to how the verses sometimes end on an unresolved higher note. That note hangs in the air with the deep dulcimer chord, giving it that ethereal 'floating' feel.  As always, nicely done.

Thanks Lisa, it's always lovely to hear from you.

Wow Gordon this is really interesting and very different than the one I am playing. Yours is hauntingly mystical. Mine is cheerful and joyous. I love your version.

Hi Cynthia, this tune was the closest I found to Robin's tune, however I believe there are some more tunes for the same lyrics. Thanks for listening and for your encouragement.
