Lovely, John! A little history on the tune, in case anyone is interested - I found the melody in several places including P.W. Joyce's 1909 Old Irish Folk Music and Songs, in researching Fresh Airs - Irish Antiquities for Mountain Dulcimer. Joyce had it under the name "Nancy, the Pride of the West". It is also known as "My Ireland", but with England's past history of oppressive dominance in Ireland, many songs were sung with words of allegory, therefore, the title "For Ireland I'd Not Tell Her Name" (Ar Eirinn ni neosfainn ce hi). Legend states that this slow air is praising the magnificent beauty of a young maiden who appeared for only a short time to a Gaelic poet. He fell in love with her charm and beauty, but she resisted his amorous advances, then disappeared from him forever.

Thank you Strumelia, its truely good to be back. I don't get out much these days, shopping mainly, and so these little excursions into the dulcimer world really help 111.gif . I am sure that I speak for others when I say that this site is an inspiration, so thanks to you41.gif

Patty, thank you for listening and being kind with your comments about my Virgina style dulcimer, I just wish that I had put wooden pegs on it 39.gif ! Still, I like it , it has that 'old' feel to it ( due to the several hand rubbed applications of Spam grease I guess ,lol) 3.gif

Thanks for the explanation of bead tuners, John. I would think they would be a good option for people playing instruments with traditionalpeg tuners who want greater accuracy and ease of tuning butalso want to maintain the integrity of the original design of the instrument.
