For young players whose feet don't reach the floor I have made lap supports out of brown-colored foam board. The supports are 71/2" by 20".  I get 4 out of a 20 by 30 board.  I glue plastic shelving strips on the underside to help keep the board on their laps. I also supply them with flexible picks made out of the red tops of small microwaveable cans of Chef Boyardi products.  I cut four slightly rounded triangular picks out of each top.  I then put white artist's (drafting) tape on one edge of the pick to denote the top.
