The World Turned Upside Down
Artist: Dusty Turtle
Genre: dulcimer
Duration: 00:02:38
Description:
This English ballad was first published in the 1640s. Myth holds that General Cornwallis ordered his band to play it when he retreated from Yorktown after surrendering to the American and French troops, thus formally ending the American Revolution. I am playing it on a Modern Mountain Dulcimer made of lacewood and tuned DAd.
Thanks, Laurel! And you, too, marg. Somehow I missed your comment several months ago.
I love this! Thanks for the tab. :)
Thanks Dusty for the tab and for playing it, very nice.
For anyone interested, here is the tablature I arranged for this tune .
Most excellent Mr Dusty. I dont think i have heard you play this style of tune before.
Thanks, Helen. I introduced this tune to my local dulcimer group last weekend. One person commented that it would be great to play at Renaissance fairs. Since it was first published in the 1640s and the melody is even older than that, it would indeed be perfect there.

Thanks,Dusty. That explains it....Do you know what classes Aubrey will be teaching, and for what level? By then I'll have been playing a year, noter/drone, by ear...Thanks.
Annie, I don't think a workshop schedule has been determined yet. I will post an Event notice here when we have more details.

Thanks for listening, Benjamin, Steven, and Annie. I will be teaching this tune to my local dulcimer group this weekend.
Annie: the official date of the Berkeley Dulcimer Gathering is Saturday, May 7. There will be a faculty concert the night before and possibly a master class the next day. The organizer of that event, Deborah Hamouris, is going through some medical issues right now, so the website has not been updated, but I'm in touch with her so let me know if you have any questions.
1640's, wow! Don't you lovr how old that piece is? Some of the anthems we sing in our Anglican choir are old as well, And then some are recent...BTW do you know when/what Aubrey Atwater will be teaching at the Berkeley dulcimer gathering? She has it on her calendar as 2 days, but the info isn't up on their website yet...Thanks! I'll follow you, maybe you could p.m. me? Thanks! (When you live in Manitoba, you gotta' plan ahead...!)
Thank you Dusty...A very good rendition of this tune.
Very good, Dusty.
