Ladie Rothmayis Lilt -- Planxty Hewlett medley

musician/member name: Dusty T
Duration: 00:03:20
description:
A medley of the Scottish tune "Ladie Rothmayis Lilt," based on Aaron O'Rourke's tablature which is itself based on lute tablature from the Skene manuscript of the early 17th century, and Turlough O'Carolan's (1670-1738) "Planxty Hewlett." I am playing a baritone dulcimette made of walnut and cedar by Ron Ewing and tuned AbEbAb.

Aaron teaches the lute tune at Dulcimer School: https://learn.dulcimerschool.com/

Thanks so much @Randy-Adams. As I mentioned below, I had always played this dulcimer with six strings but recently took off all the doubles. It seems to be a completely different instrument now with a nice, bright tone.

That little dulcimer has a good tone to it DT. Extra nice playing my friend.

How lovely, Dusty!  You make that Ohio-made mountain dulcimer sing wonderfully.

PS- I'd like to see you dance. catdance

Thanks for your supportive comments, @Sam.  The lute tune was probably a dance originally, but "listening" music works for me.  No one would want to see me dance, that's for sure! hamster

Very pretty Dusty. Such nice 'listening' music. The walnut and cedar in this case go wonderfully together. Your playing is good too. Each note is clear and to the fullest. Thanks for sharing.

Aw shucks.  blush @Strumelia and @Bob, your words are too kind. blush

I've had this dulcimer for about 8 years or so. Until a few weeks ago I always played it with six strings.  It was loud and really great for rhythmic strumming.  But when I took off the extra strings, it became a completely different instrument.  There is a precision and clarity to the single strings that really works well with these tunes.

Just beautiful, thank you Dusty for these beautiful tunes. Your temperament on the dulcimer is like you have become one with it.

Honestly, I could listen to your music all day.
