George, I've been trying to get a decent recording. I toyed with the idea of playing my thumb piano and combining it with me playing the dulcimer, Come Thou Fount.. but haven't been pleased with the mic. I'm getting a hissing sound. I used Audacity to remove the noise but if I eliminate it then the sounds from the thumb piano sound very distorted. I'm not sure what to do other than try to record with my point and shoot camera. I haven't had a chance to try that yet. Hopefully soon. I've been practicing more with the thumb piano just for testing sound
thanks George ...I hope one day to as good as you guys are on the dulcimer ...have a great day tomorrow my friend
thanks for my dulci compliment George
George, you made me smile! :) Thanks...I'm so excited about this upcoming week. Will report back. Taking a little recorder with me so I hope to capture some new tunes!
great george! glad to hear it! i've always loved it :)
Sorry George, my computer locked up on chat! First time that's happened. I had to reboot and then i got back just now you were gone :( I think it was Safari that glitches....got the big spinning beach ball and no keys would work. Grrrrrr.
I currently have McSpadden, Modern Mountain and a Warren May dulcimers.
Hi George! I've been working a lot lately with not too much time for dulcimer....so I've been using my time to play but not record. I don't know the tune butcher boy...is it a fiddle tune?? I'd have to hear it and then maybe I could help, although I'm not great with different tunings. Its easiest for me to hear and transcribe chords believe it or not....but I'll search around to see if I can hear butcher boy and see if i have any ideas.
Will also try to record maybe tomorrow. So much to do!! Wishing for a lottery win so I could play full time :)
Hi George, I saw where you asked about Dulcimer U. It is a great event for everyone from beginners to advance players. I go every year and it is always a good time. Larry and Elaine Conger do a great job and there is something for everyone at all times.
I would highly recommend either Janita Baker or Susan Trump for you. Also plenty of good electives to choose from in the afternoon.
Everything is in one building (brand new last year- honors dorm)with the cafeteria being a very short walk away.
Hope to see you there!
I've never been before, but I'm going this year. It's held at Western Carolina University where I taught for several years so I've heard great things about dulcimer U, but not from the perspective of an attendee. I'm very much looking forward to it!!
George, I'm not getting as much practice as I would like but I am getting some. I'll try doing something with Word. I would love to make my own template for doing tab. I did find a couple of websites that gives you blank music sheets and one with a tab section to print. Next time I find them I'll send you a message with the link. I can't remember off the top of my head. Thanks for doing all the work to get permission. I can't wait to see the tab
Thanks George....I think I could do that in Word as well or at least give it a try. Did you make a recording yet of Church in the Wildwood. If not, when you do let me know as I'd love to hear it. I'm glad you are writing for beginners....I'm not to interested in complicated ways of playing things.....simple is enjoyable for me!
Hey George, just got back from Dulcimerville. It was uber ccol and we had a lot of fun. I can't wait until your next vid....Later, Karen
Hi George, just saw your comment you left Wednesday on my wall. Thanks for posting! Yep, I'm on summer break now! I still take a dulcimer lesson now and then from Larkin, and I was hoping to get some students of my own to teach this summer. Unfortunately, since I broke my wrist in a car accident on Wednesday morning, it looks like I'll be doing neither for a while. In the meantime, I'll enjoy visiting this site and reading the discussion forums and watching people's videos. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos! Thanks for the compliments on mine.
Thanks for the comment on my wall, George. I'm glad you enjoyed reading my blog post. Fortunately I am now on summer break, so I have lots of more time to play my instruments--and I'm loving it!
Hi George- Please see your INBOX for my private message....thanks!
George, I wish there was more time to take more classes with all of them. I only got to take one class with Ralph and one with Anne. I took two with Maddie and Rob. Yes, I did learn a lot especially in the strumming and finger picking class. I've been practicing my strumming but when I do the the left hand on the frets I'm slow. I guess it just takes practice. I enjoy your playing. It inspires me to practice.
Hmmm...well time would be the first hold up and I don't have any tab software either. Its a great suggestion though, but I'm once again working for pay these days so that is what is taking up most of my time right now.
thanks for the welcome, George. Haven't heard of a workshop nearby yet but will keep my eyes open....blessings, Linda
George....unfortunately I don't have tab for either. They were both tunes I knew from guitar or mandolin and I just picked them out on the dulcimer. I bet someone will have tab for Joe Clark anyway...its a pretty popular song. I'll look over on on Everything Dulcimer....don't know my way around real well but hopefully I can find your tab/recording.
