hey--I see you're from my family's neck of the woods...Carbondale, Murphysboro, that area. They settled there before the Civil War, mostly on land grants from after the Rev. War.Smile.gif

Hey George. Thanks for the wood order including the aspen. I will try it out in a few weeks. Keep me some walnut and cypress boards worked up. Let me know when you have Sitka. I plan on staying busy finishing dulcimers this winter. Thanks, JP.

Thanks for friend request George, i have been working wood since I started my apprenticeship in 1948, and used to whittle just about anything that would make shavings with my pocket knife before then! I still use mostly hand tools, tho' I do have a small pillar drill ( I used to make Ham. Dulc's., lots of pins to make holes for)John

Hey George - forgot to mention the other day, that I'm gonna try to make the pilgrimage to Creal Springs sometime in the future. My goal is to spend a few days with ol' Gumbo Ron, jammin' some Trop Rock tunes, doin' a little co-writing a song or two, and who knows what. I'm certain I'll drag my dulcimer along and will try to see if Ron can be "converted"! If I make it up there, I'll definitely let you know, so we can all get together and do a little jammin'! It's all still up in the air, but workin' in that general direction.Scooter

HIs name is Ron Bertrand - a parrothead (Jimmy Buffett style) picker, originally from Beaumont, TX but has lived there for some time, I think. He used to have a band called the Gumbo Limbo Band, named after a type of tree in Belize. go to: www.swampabbean.com/ or www.youtube.com/user/GumboRon Tell Ron, I sent ya!

George, you're right about how nice it would've been to have found a note with the instruments. Good thing there wasn't a fiddler, a banjar picker, and a guitar picker in the wall with the instruments! :)

I don't build, George, yet hope to put together a box dulcimer someday. That's just wild that a guitar was found inside the wall of an old house. We gutted an old house-- the house that's now our home-- and it would have been a big surprise to find a guitar under the plaster & lath.
