The Praties is about the Great Famine in Ireland during the 1840s. It's a rather sad song, but this is a gray rainy day here, so I thought I would post it.
The photo is of the road in Gortnatraw North on the Fanad Peninsula, County Donegal. My grandmother's father, Michael McGranahan, lived in a house that is now a pile of rubble just beyond the trees at the top of the photo. He moved to the States in 1890, but his sister lived there until the 1930s.
