Concerning Slots under the fretboard.
I'm sure some of you may have seen a dulcimer or two that had slots cut in the sides, instead of a hole in the top of the fretboard, as has been done with older types.
It seems to me that these slots would weaken the connection between the fretboard and the sound board. As an alternative, I was thinking that perhaps drilling some holes through the sides, so the sound can get out better, while maintaining a good glue joint between the fretboard and soundboard. Any thoughts out there? Thanks!
