I think it varies quite a bit, I have tried various tunings and string combinations. It's a bit of a strange beast, the string height is about 1/4" above the frets and according to someone who knows a lot more about historic scandinavian instruments than I do think that it is some sort of Pythagorean scale. It certainly sounds quite minor.
