Summer Festivals...starting this weekend!

2015 Festivals: Dulcimer Workshops

Dulcimers will be to the fore at many of the major UK acoustic festivals this year. There will be hands-on workshops and in some cases stalls, offering an opportunity for festival goers to try and buy a dulcimer. Do come along, join in and have a chat.

May 2015: First up this weekend is the Bristol Folk Festival based at the historic St Georges Hall and the Bristol Folk House, both off Park Street BS1. Afternoon workshops by John Shaw and myself on Saturday 2 nd May (3.00 -4.30) and Sunday 3 rd (2.30-4.00) in the Folk House. We shall also have a stall in St Georges all weekend a welcome last minute addition by the organisers but an admin headache at this late stage! NB If anybody is free this weekend and would like to help on the stall, please give me a ring/email.

July/August 2015: South Brent Folk Day (Devon) on Saturday 4 th July will have a dulcimer stall with workshops and a concert slot, followed on the Sunday by a further workshop/session for hammered and mountain dulcimers. Plenty of camping and B&B options.

Dulcimers have a formal presence at the long-running Sidmouth Festival 31 st July 7 th August for the first time in a long while. Two or three workshops over the main week in a venue the organisers have yet to determine.

Then over the August Bank Holiday at the hugely popular Shrewsbury Folk Festival 28 th -31 st August. Robin Clark and I will be running three workshops, at least two in the new workshop tent rather than the barbetter or worse, you decide!

September 2015: Finally, Robin and I will be at the UKs premiere bluegrass event on Kemble Airfield, Gloucestershire, the Didmarton Bluegrass Festival 4 th -6 th September . Robin will have a Bird Rock Dulcimers stall and run two workshops over the weekend.
