Wormy chestnut, best color choice?

Hi, I am repairing a stout little dulcimer that is made of what I think is wormy chestnut. Sanded out it is a very pale grainy wood with streaks of dark and streaks of rose tones. Hard as oak and looks somewhat like oak. Nothing that we have in the N. W. wood wise. I do not want to finish it with anything that will go 'yellow/green'ish, if I can help it. Any ideas? Light chestnut stain? Brass frets, buttons and tuners back on when finished. Thank for any help. Just love this site!!! Jan
