Yes, it's guitar - but I think you'll see what I mean.

Rod, the blindfolded "Pinball Wizard" player was Sam Edelston...he performed this at Kentucky Music Week back in June, where I had him for an hour-long class every day, plus an extra class or two and even a one-on-one session one afternoon.  He sure has a lot of fun making music!  He puts on the Nutmeg Festival in CT and is often at dulcimer events in the northeast.

I have also jammed with the wonderful Rob Lackey, who can whip out the most nimble fiddle tune one minute and caress a lullaby out of his dulcimer the next. He's great to play harmonies with, also.  I hope you two can get together at one of the many dulcimer events that are held in your part of the country!

You might also want to check out lessons on YouTube...I find the ones by Steve Seifert and Bing Futch especially helpful.

Welcome, Rodney, to this little corner of dulcimer heaven.  Glad you remembered the website address.  Please join our WV players group and be sure to come to Wartz'n'All in Oct. (place not quite determined, but in north central WV.)  We'll try to do a little Farina and I'll have a couple of loaners for you to mess with if you haven't gotten one by then. Hope you enjoy it here.

Your playing at the festival in Salem was the first I'd heard of such a chorded style - and I blame you for my my interest having reached the level of actual pursuit of an instrument!

It didn't help that I watched that guy playing (and singing) "Pinball Wizard" on YouTube...

I laughed hysterically the entire time - and it had nothing to do with his being blindfolded...(a gimmick I thought, though not offputting or anything, just inappropriate to the level of his playing. ;)

Hi RH, and welcome to the wonderful world of the Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer.  It's a good place to come, spend some time, learn about the dulcimer, and to meet some good people.

Ben

Greetings from Vermont R and welcome to the site. If I were in your shoes knowing what I know today, I'd buy a Ron Gibson. I'm a guitar player too, and his dulcimers deliver. They are spot-on in tune as well which we have grown to expect. Just an idea. Have fun here.
