Wood and tuning for a McSpadden Ginger

Hi all,

I'm planning on getting a Ginger. I'd appreciate your opinions on wood selection and tuning. I'm leaning toward walnut back and sides - but the top? Spruce? Redwood? I prefer a mellower tone. Jim mentioned that redwood would be mellower (but I actually prefer the look of the spalted sycamore!)

The mellower tone is also why I'm leaning toward the DAd tuning (vs. the 'standard' G tuning. Your thougts and experiences are greatly appreciated!
