Playing a dulcimer at a ham radio flea market

Just wanted to share this 'cuz I thought it was funny. 

So I went to the Monroe Michigan Ham Radio Club Hamfest a couple months ago.  It's a swap and shop for (mostly) ham radio equipment.  One of the people selling ham stuff brought his dad.  And the dad was selling a couple of mountain dulcimer he made out of plywood. 

Not the greatest instruments trust me. He had stickers with numbers on each fret.

So I picked one up, tuned it, (I don't think the ol' boy that made them knew how to tune one) and played Simple Gifts.  Should of seen the looks on my friend's faces.  They had no idea I could play one.

If you could have just one dulcimer...

I already own my dream dulcimer which is a Blue Lion Acoustic Jam dulcimer. Like Robin’s dulcimer, it is made with a western red cedar soundboard and walnut back and sides. The VSL is 26.25.” I play mostly fingerpicking chord style. The Blue Lion dulcimer is great for that. I guess having some beautiful inlay work would make it even more dreamy. Since acquiring the Blue Lion AJ dulcimer, my playing has greatly improved.

 

I looked up the dulcimer you have. Beautiful instrument. So glad to hear your playing improved so much since you acquired it.
