I play with a dulcimer club located in Fairhope, Al and today I was assisting a young lady in tuning her dulcimer. She has a beautiful Folkcraft dulcimer which as an excellent voice. The dulcimer is of the vintage when Folkcraft's company was located in Connecticut. The issue is the instrument is hard to tune because the tuners are extremely hard to turn. Attached please find a photo of the tuners for your reference.
I have no experience with these tuners so I thought I'd ask the experts before I screw them up. My thoughts are I could loosen the screw going through the gear or possibly put graphite under the gear but my concern is doing something that would make the instrument unable to hold tune. Your advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Jim
I play with a local mountain dulcimer club and we were discussing adding rounds to our music. If you play rounds, please respond with the title(s) of your favorite rounds. Thanks in advance.

Dusty thanks for the recommendations, I'm working on the song with all the suggestions made so far. I may have to break up the slide with a hammer-on
Thanks all for responding. Yes, Ken I am playing across the strings & the downward slide is on the Melody string. I've also texted Brett & based on what you & Brett are saying I need to work on my slide skills for this tune. It's beautiful so now it's a simple matter of working to finesse this tune.
I read these forums frequently and am immensely appreciative of the feedback and comments from many of the commenters. Thanks.
I have a Warren May dulcimer with which I am very pleased regarding the looks, sound and sustain when sliding to higher frets. However, I am playing Brett Ridgeways version of St Annes Reel and the 2nd half of the piece slides down multiple frets and the volume basically disappears.
Is there a trick I don't know? Would it make a difference if I changed the string height?
P.S. My dulcimer does not have any type of pickup. Is that my only option?
Thanks in advance
Thanks for the responses. I don't have an issue paying for a tab & I'm going to order Glazner's packet.
This is one of my wife's favorite songs & she has asked me to play it. I've been unable to locate a tab. I would appreciate if anyone knows who may have tabbed it out.
I'll be volunteering at a state park outside Somerset, Pa in 2021 & would like to hook up with a club/group that play the mountain dulcimer in Somerset, Pa. If anyone has any contact info for this club, please send me the contact information.
Thanks in advance

Basically I'm a neophyte & started taking lessons & studying the dulcimer the last 4 months so an expert I'm not. I changed out the old strings with those listed above & I've tried both larger & smaller middle & base strings but I still have a disturbing buzz on both of those strings when playing on the 2nd fret. Open or any other fret is no problem. The height of both strings at the 1st fret is slightly more than the thickness of a dime & slightly more than a nickel at the 7th. This was a 5 string dulcimer but I've taken off the drone string, moved the base to the drone location & the middle string to the center on the nut & bridge. Space between the melody to middle string and base to middle string is the same. I've not altered the nut, bridge or any of the frets.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
