How is the COVID-19 coronavirus affecting you?

OFF TOPIC discussions

The one piece of good news in the UK is the vaccine program, which is going full speed with about 15% vaccinated already. But we still have thousands in hospital and hundreds dead daily. Our thoughts are with all those affected, wherever they are.

Here in my little corner of the UK the sun is shining, the birds are somehow louder and more melodic and the Red Kites wheel about in the skies. There are no planes above and little traffic passing. The air, even in this rural area, is noticeably sweeter. This is how it used to be, back in the days before fossil fuels when, of course, they had plagues and pandemics! It’s hard not to get dragged down by the daily death toll and threats of economic disaster, but there is also a wealth of selfless heroism and much kindness between people. I hope we don’t forget that, once this has passed. I felt guilty that I was not contributing more ( waiting to be called back in), but having cleaned, decorated and gardened myself half to death, I finally picked up my dulcimer and guitar again. What a blessing! My teenage son, unable to go to school, has no such qualms, playing guitar for hours each day. Man, can he play! <snip> Stay safe everyone, this nightmare will pass.

You are absolutely right Lois. Here in the UK a seatbelt/harness is mandatory unless the dog is caged. I was glad of this when she saw a Hare and tried to dive out after it! Now she only gets the window down at low speed and when sitting with my son.
Where my other dogs tremble if they have to travel, this one goes crazy at the mention of the word „car“. She’s also able to tolerate my dulcimer playing!

She came to us with her spine and ribs showing, crouching to the floor if I held out my hand. Now she loves driving! Just visible on my profile picture.
Here’s another. Not that we spoil her...

As a general principle, I would try whatever non-irreversible techniques you can before committing to surgery.. A few months ago I developed pain st the base if my left thumb (I am also a guitar player and this frightened me). Somewhat against all my scientific training I bought a heavy copper bracelet with magnets and have worn it 24/7 since. The pain and stiffness have disappeared. Could be coincidence but my GP said he‘d seen it work for others.
I have also had amazing results for back issues arising from an old injury from a McTimoney chiropractor (not a regular chiropractor) and this would be another consideration.
This is only my experience and I am not giving advice. But for $10 I am very glad I tried the bracelet. And it looks cool! I can send you the link if you like.
