youtube tv episode on Edd Presnell...
I got the following note from Andy Johnston today:
"In the 1970s I did the original Country Traveler TV series. We traveled the U.S. doing stories on unusual and amazing people. It was the best job in television. In 1978 we drove way up into the mountains outside of Banner Elk, NC to do a story about Edd Presnell. Edd was a classic Appalachian craftsman who made mountain dulcimers. He made his first one in 1936. He fine-tuned the tone by planning down the wood to "true" the sound. During his lifetime his instruments were only known in the southeast. Then, in 1974 he was presented the Brown-Hudson Folklore Award for his dulcimers.
Last year I discovered some video tapes of those old original TV news stories and started posting them on YouTube. I added the story about Edd Presnell this week. I thought that you and members of the Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer might enjoy seeing some mountain dulcimer history from 43 years ago. Please feel free to pass the link on to anyone else might be interested."
