Good luck with your upcoming project, Mike. I hope you're able to get the sycamore from eBay. If not, you can get some from Folkcraft Instruments here in the US. They have some beautiful woods. Their website is www.folkcraft.com .
Hi, Mike. Yes, sycamore has a beautiful sound; nice, deep and resonating. My three favorite dulcimers have been sycamore -- two spalted, and the plain ol' sycamore dulcimer I made many years ago, I hung onto for almost 40 years because I loved its sound. It was banged on by grandchildren, dropped down stairs, used and abused and eventually had a crack down the back, but still sounded gorgeous. I didn't want to part with it, but there was a lady who really wanted it, so I sold it to her as it was. Now I'll have to make myself another one!
