Shape Note Christmas Hymn
As many of you know I have been really hooked on the old shape note hymns.. even to the point of creating a tab book for them. So I thought why not share a few shape note hymns for Christmas..
here is the 1st
Star In the East
by William Walker
source : Southern Harmony
This tune from The Southern Harmony along withaccompanying text are both true Christmas gems. Offering the heartsadoration to the Christ Child is the theme of the text, placing usindividually in the shoes of the wise men. The arrangement to this tune is in the Dorian mode.. which for the Key of D is DAG...hope you enjoy learning and playing this tune, may its true intent reach out and touch you.
Attached below is pdf file of the tab, a doc file of the lyrics, and a midi file.
Here also is a youtube link to a singing of the the hymns.
thanks and Merry CHRISTmas
