Maintenance on Five Star planetary pegs

The pegs went on the instrument in '03 and I am not the original owner.  I love these pegs and do not know whether I should attempt to tear into them myself to look to correct the grinding/crunching noise in a couple of them.  Any advice is appreciated!  (NOTE: I will be away most of today so will check replies this evening.)
