Extra Frets Blues
I threw this tune together really fast to take part in a conversation over at ED, but a couple of peoplesuggested I post it here as well. It was written in honor of fellow FOTMD memberKen Hulme. To be honest, whenI want to play the blues I play the guitar, but this little experiment has meinterested in taking the blues on the dulcimer more seriously. Of course, without that 1-1/2 fret I'd be lost.
If my voice bothers you as much as it does me , you can read the lyrics here:
I've got extra frets, how can I tell my friend Ken?
I've got extra frets, how can I tell my friend Ken?
He's an uncontrite modal folker, you see the fix I'm in.
I grew up on the blues, the lowered third tastes like mother's milk.
I grew up on the blues, the lowered third tastes like mother's milk.
But luthiers make extra frets for others of my ilk.
Born in Shady Grove but Beale Street is my home.
Born in Shady Grove but Beale Street is my home.
Along back alleys and extra frets I roam.
