Anchoring Right Hand Fingers

Hello!  I am a very new player and was wondering if anyone else has trouble with anchoring their right hand fingers?  My anchored fingers keep touching the bass string.  Is it necessary to anchor?  Are some instruments harder to anchor on or are some fingers not long enough to anchor?  Thanks for any advice.
