Tell us your reason for choosing a chromatic dulcimer!

At first glance it might seem an obvious question, but I bet there are multiple interesting reasons folks have for deciding to get or make a chromatically fretted dulcimer.  I'd like to hear your thoughts on why YOU chose one!
