Alex Lubet At a Place Far Away
Hi All,
I suspect this is pretty unusual, as is everything I do on mountain dulcimer. It's a fantasy on a Chinese folk song that I composed for performances in that country. Asian musicians and audiences seemed to really like mountain dulcimer.
The performance is from my album "Three Strings and the Truth: New Music for Mountain Dulcimer." I'm a soon-to-be retired professor of classical music composition at the University of Minnesota. Most of my work since the turn of the millennium has been for folk instruments that I play (very different from most classically trained composers, but I've also taught history of rock music and love and play all kinds of music). I've played guitar for almost sixty years, but started dulcimer about ten years ago and it's now by far my main instrument. My technique is pretty unorthodox, as are many of the sounds I make.
If you're interested, you can hear my music on all the major streaming sources. I'm not trying to sell anything.
Thanks for your time and for your wonderful community.
