i recently upgraded to an iphone 7 from a 4... i could not upgrade the 4 to any of the new osi.... the reason i went as high as 7 is because of the 7's water resistance.....apple has been guilty of this kind of action from day one... they do it purposely for only one reason profit. boy talk about wasteful throw away society....

You could also try contacting Butch and asking him if you could buy only his tab for Blackbird from him directly at some cost he determines. No harm in asking!
thanks lass i did that last night. we will see what happens.

Hey I just remembered that Butch Ross also has a book of Beatles tunes. Since I know he has played "Blackbird" on the MD, I bet that tune is there.

It is also legal to tab out for your own purposes a copyrighted song. And you can even share it with a friend. That's all legal.
Yep that is pretty much what i was talking/asking about in my original post.

hmmmm so those of you who are gigging musicians only play 'Public Domain" tunes? Soooo all the cover bands we go see at the local pubs are in violation of the copyright laws?
so if i learn this song on my own and tab it out am i in violation of CR law.... how about if i gave a copy to a friend?
Don't get me wrong i am for copyright laws....i have several tunes on my CD that where not public domain and i either wrote the composer personally or went through Harry Fox and paid for them.
i have the neil hellman book and no, Blackbird is not in there. as i said i am willing to pay but i would rather not because it will not be using it for performance or recording.
there is the letter of the law and the spirit of the law.
PS... none of my statements are directed at FOTMD

yes i understand copyright... however i wonder why MD is so clogged up with CR issues
and i can go on to sites like Guitar Tab Universe and have it in seconds for free ....for the guitar of course..
i wonder why that is... i am willing to pay of course.... but i wonder why that is.....

JP, As Ken says, clicking on the thumbnail of your picture opens it up in the browser sufficiently large. If you click on the file name it asks you to download it.
However, there is also another way to embed pictures in posts. You chose to attach your picture using the "Attach File" button. You can also directly embed a picture using the "Embed Local Media" tab, which is the penultimate icon on the tool bar. It looks like a piece of film. If you click on that you can embed a picture directly into the textbox. You will have the option of about 14 different picture sizes. The medium option looks like this:

you guys probably no this already but on the outside chance that you do not. i bought this nice capo awhile back... i do not really no how or why to use it but it makes me look professional. I keep it on my dulcimer right above the NUT. i noticed the other day that my pick fits right in the lil gap and holds tightly.... do you know how many time i could not find my pick?? Problem solved.
is there away to get a full size picture posted?

motivation
General mountain dulcimer or music discussions
thanks terry i appreciate your words.
i appreciate all you who responded... thanks
after spending 25 years doing Renaissance Faires and finally giving it up this year, i bought a mountain dulcimer.... cause i always liked the sound and the ease of playing or the complexity of playing.
It may all be due to the change of life style... So many friends on the faire circuit both performers and patrons. to now really nothing... no longer anything to inspire and require practicing. I guess also i am tired of "trad"music.
i have been wondering back and listening to music from my youth.... i have been finding inspiration in "Music from Big Pink" and "the Basement Tapes" diddling with some of the tunes and thinking they may sound quite cool on MD.
So right now i am picking it up several times a week almost daily sometimes for hours sometimes just to see if a song i like is doable. Still not sure where i am going ... baby steps. i miss performing.

sigh lost all my motivation.... not only to MD and music but to everything...
anyone have any motivation for me i need a muse.

Site QUESTIONS ? How do I...?
often as i go to a post on the home page and click on it even if it says 11 comments all i get is the original question there is nothing else there.
this post is an example.

Posted a new Comment on I, IV, V chords :
not that it is important... i have bluebirds on my tc obrien.... i hate them.
( if it had been any other of his birds or animal sound holes I would not have bought it)
they came with the machine which i picked up used for a great price in NC when i
visited.
i prefer traditional holes... except hearts are over used.... i like C holes a lot....f holes are fine... if i could choose i would like the crescent-moon and star as David Schnaufer had on his .... kind of a stylized C hole.... but never animals or birds. jmho

i have played Renaissance Faires since 94 (hammer dulcimer.... since retired). i found when ever i though about what i was playing i would screw up so i just try to blank my mind and let muscle memory take over.... not always easy to blank your mind.
pretty soon your mind sez... hey your doing good on this one... and then comes the clunker.
audio input will do that to you too.
however i never really like playing with big groups of people though at times i was forced to. i think when you have 10-20 people playing the same tune all playing lead it may sound peculiar ...

here is a better one.... the headstock would be pointing down...

ok the good news is yes you can tune it up. it is tight but it is there.... changing strings is not an issue for me ... i wanted to be able to go back and forth DAD and DDD...on the same machine... with out surprises.
thanks to ken for the counsel.....he got closest to a yes or no answer.

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions
Dddd.... Hey that’s the dragnet theme!🎶
my concern is the “A” string going up to the same D as the melody strings will pop. i am just trying to find out if it will be to tight... has anyone had any experience doing this with the specs i gave in the original post???
my strings are 12 12 14 22
bagpipe drone.
General mountain dulcimer or music discussions
well maybe i was not clear.
my dulcimer is tuned to ddAD
i want it in bag pipe all D's across the board
the middle string presently is at A.... a .14 gage will it go up to D with out breaking
OR should i tune it down to D.
Cigar Box Guitars
Adventures with 'other' instruments...
i mentioned i built some Cigar box guitars... here are a couple.....the black (Punch) one i built for
my grandson.... funny thing is when he received it he had punched a wall screwed up his
picking hand.....
the red one (American) i built for my son.... they are all slide guitars tuned GDG

the "A" string (.14) can i tune it up to D or should i tune it to D below A?
When i get the "A" string up to C i must admit i get a butt pucker feeling and
chicken out.

i have an old ... old... MD. i am restoring it only really needs a new bridge which i have from Folkcraft... will have to do some sanding to get it to fit.... it has what i believe are banjo friction mechanical tuning mechanisms they seem to semi hold the tone... i believe the screw holding the tuner head on is how to tighten the tuner.... should i remove them clean and oil them... any other suggestions? thanks kindly.
