Strings for a six string

@john-rawlinson

I have just bought a six string and am contemplating experimenting with the set up. Looking at what others do it seems like the main choice is the first two courses of unison strings (10 or 12 gauge) and the 3rd course as either unison (22- 24 gauge) or octave (e.g. 23 & 10). I wondered if anyone uses, or has any thoughts about having, two octave courses (e.g. 10 &10; 22 & 12; 23 & 10) or something similar. (I have other conventionally strung dulcimers, so this would just be an experiment). I would see it as mainly played with a noter in standard modes in D.

Thanks for any comments,

John
