Thanks all for the welcome. Regarding my question below I took the Sunhearth to a luthier and she said that it probably had friction pegs originally and these were replaced with others that do not allow enough space for the strings to pass unhindered. Not an easy fix apparently because the neck is so narrow. Probably easiest to change back to friction pegs.
Hi David, and welcome to the wonderful world of the Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer. It's a good place to come, spend some time, learn about the dulcimer, and to meet some good people.

Glad to have you join us David Collins. Welcome to Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer. This is a great community of wonderful dulcimer people. I hope you enjoy it here. Let us know if you have questions.
I should have added that it only has three strings on at the moment. We did that to run a quick test. I am waiting to see the best way to complete the stringing for 4 equidistant strings.
Hi all. I have the opportunity to buy a Sunhearth dulcimer from a friend. It is teardrop model from 1981. Photo in the attach file. It is in good condition but I have concerns about the positioning of the strings on the tuning pegs. Due to the narrowness of the neck the strings from the two furthest pegs are touching the ends of the two nearest pegs on their way to the fret board. Is this a problems in terms of tuning and/or string life? If so is there a way to solve the problem? Thanks.
