We are a group of 8 seniors playing dulcimers together. Several of us are interested in playing different dulcimers and are looking into purchasing inexpensive cardboard dulcimers to try out chromatic, or 4 equal distant, or baritone tuned dulcimers. I see several makers of cardboard dulcimers, Folkcraft, Backyard Music, Fireside Harps (are they still in business? I'm only seeing on Etsy), and Mountain Dulcimers for Children.
I'm not crazy about the idea of having to cut and install the frets ourselves as it seems Folkcraft kits require, but I'm interested in all your ideas and comparisons. Personally I care a lot about intonation, so want frets to be accurately distanced.
What are your recommendations? Ideas?
Just purchased from a friend - made October 25, 1974 - Capritaurus model 300 Special. Spruce top, rosewood body, ebony fretboard. It's in mint condition. Super happy!!!
Thanks, Ken - actually we're driving across country from CA to TN and back to attend the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough TN which happens the first weekend of October each year. We've always flown, but will be retired this time! So we get to take two months + for this trip. Got to make the best of it, but will not be making it to Florida this time.

Actually the list here is pretty good. Also the list at EverythingDulcimer: http://www.everythingdulcimer.com/event_display.php
Not a lot going on in the Fall - Sept-Nov but you're always welcome to snowbird down here to Florida where there's almost always something happening!
Where is the most exhaustive list of Dulcimer Festivals to be found? I'm specifically looking for September, October and early November festivals this year, but would like to know about all of them!
