What Are You Working On?

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

I have copied a few tabs, Blowing in the Wind, There's Something about that Name and where have all the Flowers Gone. My goal is to share one with you all as soon as I can master it. I'm getting excited to get into the grove again and since winter is fast aproaching, what a better time to start.

Take care my fellow Dulcimer Players

Getting back into my Dulcimer

Playing and jamming difficulties...HELP ME!

Hello everyone... I just ordered some new strings for my Dulcimer. I am retiring from work in a few weeks and am decitated to get back to my music. I find I am greatly rusty now and can't remember a lot of how to finger and play smoothly. To chord alone or play melody and chord.

If anyone has any suggestions for me or anyone else who wants to get back into the swing please offer your advice. I looked over what I shared playing before and can't believe I even played that good. Need to build that confidence again. Please suggest how to get into the proper routine.

Thank you

Love you all !!

Totally Agree with Dusty. I love to dabble with every instrument I can try. I do however have my favorites. My Banjo and Dulcimer are in the lead along with my guitar, mandolin, uke, recorder and harmonica. Phewww. That keeps me busy. Lots of fun and yes, worth well because we all need to relax and enjoy things that pleases us without the worry of how much money we can make when we learn a particular instrument. My first admirer was Wayne Newton. He can play lots of different instruments. So Robin, Go ahead and enjoy. Your worth it !! thumbsup

Hello All

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Hi everyone. I just had to say to all that I have never left this group. I have been gone, life has been busy, but still pop in and listen and look at all your wonderful playing. I miss you all and just felt impelled to let you know. I still play when I get a chance and spread the news of Dulcimer playing to all my friends. I threaten to return and share some more. ( humbly speaking). Kep up the learning and sharing. Continue to thank all those whose help this site continue. They will help and they have helped me also.               So in ending, thank you for being there for me even though I leave sometimes. Love you all and God Bless.

Vibration and tone of my Dulcimer as I play...

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Thanks again.

Maybe I am getting the angle wrong. I play banjo and Guitar and possibly that is why I try to hold it at the wrong angle. When I chord it seems harder also. Will have to chat with you one day. If you can message me or e-mail me your skype name and the best time to contact you.

Have a great day.

Thanks Linda.

I tried that and found it too hard for me to play. Great idea though and I think it may work for others also.

Vibration and tone of my Dulcimer as I play...

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Hello all:

As I am playing my Dulcimer I have it on my knees with a strap for support. However as I played a chord then tilted the dulcimer I got a more richer sound and more vibration. When I returned to the regular position on my knees it went a bit dulled again.

Would this be because of the wood the dulcimer is made up with? Am I stopping the vibration by it on my knee support? Is there a apparatus or some way to keep the sustain when the Dulcimer is on my knees as the same if I tilted it? I play through a pic up and amp also and one can really see the difference in the sound when resting on the knees and off the knees.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
