McSpadden FHWW hourglass dulcimer, signed and dated Jim Woods 2016. Like many players, I’ve never seen the need of a double melody string, and while I’ve always been a fan of McSpadden’s 28” scale dulcimers, they don’t offer a 3 string option. So awhile back I took matters into my own hands. Considering that I’m not a luthier, just an amateur woodworker, I think it turned out pretty well. I inlaid an old Indian head penny on the headstock. There’s a couple of imperfections on the headstock overlay/finish, and two very minor dings on the player-side top edge. I used 1/16” walnut for the overlay and cross, which don’t affect the sound or volume. Comes with your choice of either a blue gigbag with the shoulder straps removed, or an older brown McSpadden chipboard case. I’ll include a capo and some picks. It was factory compensated for DAD tuning, but I have it in bagpipe tuning with .012/.012/.022 strings which work fine for any tuning. Why am I selling it? Thumb arthritis has effectively taken away my ability to hold a flat pick or play finger style anymore. Bummer, but thankfully can still play ukulele!😊
