It's not really a scheitholt, but an unusual mountain dulcimer. I explain the whole thing on eBay. Only a fraction of the harmonics come through in the recording,
Thanks all. I miss this instrument, having sold it last year. It was made by A Roger Burns in S Carolina using a sketch of a civil-war era scheitholt, though the raised central fretboard means it can only really be called a mountain dulcimer. There are two sympathetic strings on each side of the instrument (four SS's in total) that yield a faint but distinctive harmonic response. The intonation is astonishingly accurate. Fortunately, it found a good home.
