Took a drill to my Hondo 2

the buffalo secret tuners were killing me ....so I had a set of old black japanese strat tuners ....had to drill slowly to fit them in ....so my dulcimer dog stays in tune better and my daughter hears it resonating better /sounding more alive..?....have any of you tried any minor operations to make a lame one sound and play better.....I payed under 30 for it on evil bay
