Wood choices and new bandsaw
I just bought a new to me, 1993 14" Delta bandsaw. It has a bigger motor, cool block guides, an upgraded tension mechanism, and a 6" riser block. Unfortunately I broke the trunnions for the table tilt in transit, but happily they still sell parts for it. I ordered the trunnions, and am anxiously waiting for their arrival.
Especially since I now will have much better, easier, and less wasteful re-sawing capability I have been considering working with some different woods. Thus far I have been using mostly poplar with red oak end blocks and fret boards. I have also used a little aspen and some baltic birch ply. I am planning a trip to a great lumber yard that has a great selection of wood. I have been thinking of getting some cherry and some walnut. I'd like to get some chestnut, but it is hard to come by here. I have been thinking of working with butternut as well.
I'd like to know more about what woods were used in the old dulcimers.
