Redwood Dulcimer
My son brought me a piece of redwood plank from an old out building that he tore down back in the summer. Here is the end result of the project. The wood was well-aged (probably cut in mid-20s or -30s). It had a nice weathered patina on the outside, but also a lot of splits. Had to resaw into the heart of the plank to get some usable pieces.
I resawed to 1/8" and then sanded to 1/10". This has made for a lightweight (24 oz), but somewhat fragile dulcimer. In retrospect, I should have left it a little thicker...but I was having fun with my new Grizzly thickness sander.
It is a shorty: 20.25: VSL. It sounds pretty good though.
I put together a PDF of images from the build.
A belated Merry Christmas to all and Best Wishes for 2015!
