I'm staying in a little cottage on the Glentruim Estate up in the Scottish Highlands this week to get a bit of recording done and hopefully some backcountry skiing up on the Cairngorm mountains. Last October I played Fisher's Hornpipe on my Clifford Glen dulcimer during the tutors concert at the Launde Abbey dulcimer weekend. I used the same dulcimer for a gig just before Christmas and really enjoy its power for live playing. I realised that I hadn't recorded much on the instrument so found a little time today to sit down in the cottage's small lounge and record Fisher's Hornpipe. One feature of this dulcimer that differs from contemporary instruments is the scale. The frets are not set in equal temperament but slightly 'softened' to fit the natural harmonics of the diatonic scale.
