Can a dulcimer change? Sustain is. . .loud

Hi All,

I really love my instrument -- I play at least a little while almost every day. Recently it seems like the sustain (vibrato) is louder and longer than it used to be -- I mean really loud and really long. On some tunes it sounds awesome -- and on others, it's like . . . too much aftershave. Anybody else have this happen?
