What If Exercise: The Un-festival

Here’s a “brain storming” or “what if” exercise.

I've never run a dulcimer festival, nor do I want to.  I know a LOT of hard work goes in to them.

Now, as far as I know (excluding any Galax related events) there are no dulcimer festivals or events that cater just to noter/drone playing (correct me if I’m wrong). And as I don't want to organize a festival, and I don't want to rope anyone else into it I had this thought...

What if there was an “un-festival” for noter-drone playing?

What do I mean by "un-festival"?  I'm not sure, as I just made it up, but something that is as unorganized and uncomplicated as possible… though someone would have to pick a date and find a location.

Maybe held outside in covered gazebo or open air barn. To me auditorium/gymnasium type rooms have horrible acoustics.

Held somewhere that let us use space for a day free or cheap.

No cost to attend the un-festival, other than things like park fees, or if absolutely necessary to pay for a room.

No registration.

Maybe just one day, not more than two.

Somewhere easy to reach with camping and hotels (I don't camp any more) nearby... and restaurants (I don't cook any more when I travel)…

Volunteer lead classes/instruction (if any).

Sit around and discuss the finer points of old style playing

Sit around and jam.

Maybe more than one location, at different times (spring/fall or early/late summer).

If you have any other uncomplicated ideas go ahead and share them...
