Noter drone on a Lap-Jo?

Hi all,

Does anyone play a banjo/dulcimer with a noter? Can a Lap-Jo be tuned ddd (or dddd) and played with a noter and still sound like an old-timey banjo, or does it just sound, well, not so great?

I have a ban jammer but the Lap-Jo's bigger pot and tone are appealing. But I know I'll be staying with noter style. Would love to hear the Lap-Jo with my old-timey friends here.
