Building a solid body electric bass dulcimer

HI,

I'm gathering parts and need some advice on two things to start with.  

I have a piece of Black Limba that I plan on using for the body anyone have any difficulties with that particular species?

Secondly, anyone have a source for a ruler that can be used for the 27 inch scale length I have in mind.
