6 String "No-Body" Electric
I just finished a 1986 unbuilt dulcimer kit I got on Craig's List for $50. Winters are long and boring in a Wisconsin apartment. This project started out because of an eBay ad. It was for a Canjo for $20 with free shipping. A Canjo has dulcimer fret spacing, one string, and a soup can for a resonator. I ordered 2 of them with the idea of using one in a goofy project. It had great workmanship so I contacted the seller and asked if he made his own fret boards and could he make one for a crazy idea for a 6 string electric only, boxless, dulcimer. I do not have enough woodworking equipment in my apartment so I opted for a fret board and parts made to my measurements. After many weeks of emails and a payment using PayPal a box of Cherry parts showed up. I was going to name him Slim Pickens after an old western movie actor but settled on Ugly Stick because I made an Ugly Amp based on a PAM8610 Stereo amplifier board that I got on eBay for a little over $1. A piezo disk pickup feeds a Churub GT-6 Tuner, 3 band equalizer preamp with Reverb, Delay, Chorus, and Wide adjustments. Inside Ugly Amp I built a 7 Minute Fuzz. Some of you maybe thinking why would I do this. The first 2 years of retirement were great but now I keep from getting bored by dreaming up goofy projects. It sounds fantastic. Have you ever heard a dulcimer with reverb or fuzz?
