McSpadden kit question

I recently won a McSpadden kit at an auction and I have a question on it's build...expecting delivery tuesday. I'm anxious to get started and my mind is wandering

It seems the only consistantcomplant with these kits is the lack of volume.

Web site pictures show a one piece top and the fret board being grooved on the underside.

Would splitting the top into two pieces before gluing to the fret board help increase the sound? I'm not sure if that would be possible with the design of the scroll head or design of the back?
