Advise on making plectrum/strummer from a piece of hickory

I bought two thin sheets of hickory advertised as "book marks". They are suppose to be 1/16th or thinner.

My thoughts when I bought them was to use my dremel and experiment making a bunch of strummers from them.

Do any of you have any thoughts on this, particularly do I need to sand them down to make them thinner (I have no way to measure thickness). 

Also suggested length and width I should cut them?

Or am I off base altogether?
