I was gifted several short (4 foot) persimmon logs around 24 inches in diameter. Several hours later, a couple chain saw blades, I now have about 50 board feet of this lumber. Not only is there an abundance of heartwood, but also some nice curl. Can't wait to build a few dulcimers with this lumber!
