Suggestions please for buying a first dulcimer

This has not been discussed in a while so I thought I'd bring it back up.

For a total beginner who maybe doesn't want to spend a lot, but who wants a dulcimer they know will be playable and reliable, and who wants to avoid being disappointed...
what are a few options you'd recommend these days?  Thanks!

(Perhaps also clarify whether the suggestion would be good for a chord style player or a noter style player)

P.S. Everyone's idea of "expensive" is different i know, but I imagine the average beginner would want to keep it to below $400, maybe even to below $300 if possible.
