Playing at a local care center
There's a care center about a mile from my house. Sometimes I go to help with worship services on Sundays. I've played my dulcimer there a few times over the past couple of years, on Sundays and also for Christmas once. The most recent time I went, a young man joined me on guitar and we played "Resignation" (My Shepherd Will Supply My Need). There was an old woman sitting right in front of us, unable to speak, but making delighted sounds. They have a video feed for the meeting that goes into the rooms of people who can't attend in person. One of the regular helpers who was going from room to room told me he could hear us well over the video feed.
While I was playing, I was imagining these people as they would be free from their age and ailments: playing to their souls, hoping to reach them beyond the limitations of their current state. There's something wonderful about playing music as an offering to God through "the least of these."
I know several of the more experienced people on this forum have done a lot more of this than I have. I hope to keep doing this and build up more experiences like this. So as I do, I'll give little reports.
