Short fretboard dulcimer?

I'm new to dulcimers and am planning to build one.   I have the Kimbell book and have been trying to learn everything I can.   I love this particular dulcimer and want to make one similar.   CYC Challenge Sept 2025 Hook 1    shows this dulcimer.   I don't plan on having the "possum board" name? but do like the short fretboard with bridge separate sitting on the top.   Is there a specific name for this type of dulcimer?   I'm also wondering about good sources of wood that is long enough and quartersawn suitable for top/bottom/sides?  I'm mainly interested in cherry, walnut, and butternut.
