May vs Mcspadden
Not sure if this is the right group to ask this… but… why would I choose a Warren May dulcimer over a McSpadden? Why would I choose a McSpadden over a Warren May? Craftsmanship/appearance, it appears? A larger variety of wood types, perhaps? I’ve met with good Mr Collins who is having a New Harmony built for me, which will likely be my “main” instrument, but as no one will argue that God made neither man nor dulcimer to be alone, likewise, I’ll need a mate for my forthcoming NH dulcimer. I love the sound of all cherry McSpaddens. And I would want a different sound than that deep, mellow NH that I hope to be in possession of sooner rather than later. Is this question more of one of personal preference than anything else… are the two makers pretty much comparable? What would you do? I’d love for someone to convince of one over the other, and the other over the one. And too, just FYI, I would likely keep the NH in DAd with its extra frets for my medieval/renaissance and more modern and the other in DAA with *maybe* only a 6+ and also with only three strings.Thoughts? Thanks!
